ESG Expert to Establish a Convenience Retailer’s Office of Sustainability

The leadership team of a Fortune 500 convenience store chain recognized the importance of maturing their Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) approach and wanted to establish an office of sustainability for the Americas to prioritize related strategic initiatives. To aid in these efforts, they were seeking an ESG expert to assess the current landscape, advise on prioritization, shape the vision of sustainability for the entity, and support efforts to fill a full-time Head of Sustainability position. The ideal consultant would require a track record in establishing sustainability programs and policies in a large corporate environment. They should also have experience leading cross-functional teams on enterprise-wide sustainability projects and standing up sustainability functions.

Business Talent Group (BTG) connected the client with a renowned strategic advisor and consultant with more than 25 years of experience creating and implementing initiatives to drive positive social and community impact, foster diversity and inclusion, and enhance ESG and sustainability performance. The consultant conducted a comprehensive assessment of the existing ESG roadmap after performing gap and opportunity analyses to identify and prioritize improvement areas. They provided recommendations addressing both near and long-term goals while also offering guidance and expertise on establishing the new sustainability office.
