A renowned non-profit, multi-site academic medical center sought a fixed-term materials management executive to provide strategic oversight and drive enterprise-wide operational efficiencies. The objective was to achieve sustainable reductions in total inventory costs and improve service levels within the supply chain function.
Business Talent Group (BTG) deployed a former hospital system Chief Supply Chain Officer and strategic program manager with extensive materials management experience. The consultant directed enterprise-wide supply chain operations, overseeing materials management, inventory control, laundry operations, linen distribution, and IMS technology implementations. He led the development of improved workflows and accountability structures while implementing processes to enhance efficiency and cost control. In addition to optimizing inventory management, the consultant evaluated resource allocation, recommended staffing levels, and provided guidance on capacity planning to meet both current and future departmental needs. Additional responsibilities included overseeing departmental budgets—such as capital, operating, and construction budgets—and ensuring financial alignment with the organization’s strategic goals. This engagement resulted in significant cost savings and improved service levels, strengthening the medical center’s supply chain operations for long-term sustainability.
